Darin Toliver, MSW

Darin Toliver was born in and raised in West Philadelphia. He graduated from William Penn High School in 1987. His initial academic endeavors led him to the University of Oklahoma for 2 years. Because of his family’s economic situation, he reluctantly returned to Philadelphia and continued his education at Community College of Philadelphia. Finally, after years of dedication, he received his undergraduate degree from Temple University in 1997, with bachelor's degree in Political Science. In his quest for a more profound knowledge base, he was accepted and graduated from of the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work in 2002, receiving his Master’s Degree with a direct concentration on working specifically with disadvantaged youths and looking to make social change. He was also selected as the student speaker for final commencement ceremonies.

Prior to attending graduate school, Darin  was a Externship Coordinator with Peoples Emergency Center providing women the opportunity to find employment with participating vendors. Located in West Philadelphia, P.E.C. is a homeless facility that services women and children. He also did extensive work with Youth Emergency Services, a homeless shelter for displaced children, and Charter Fairmount Behavioral Health Center, working directly with patients suffering from psychiatric and behavioral issues in the acute in-patient unit, with the primary aim to develop an greater understanding of differential diagnosis.

Currently, Darin is honing his social work skills as a Mobile Theraptist with Dr. Warren E. Smith/ Horizons Counseling Services, working at-risks and behaviorally challenged youth in urban areas of Philadelphia. In this capacity, he assists families in the developmental process while empowering children to overcome obstacles.

He also serves as Technology Liaison and resides on the Leadership Team at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, providing support and leadership for the Contact Center and over 80 employees.

In his spare time, Darin is a music producer and member of the revolutionary challenged hip-hop group, Prophets of the Ghetto. The P.O.G. received national acclaim for their debut release of “Wreckless Writers” widely known throughout the local Tri-State area and nationally throughout the country, performing locally in Texas, Rhode Island, Virginia, Atlanta, and internationally in Switzerland and Germany. Their upcoming release, “Backyard Vision” is eagerly anticipated from faithful listeners and underground radio stations.
